Cortez Masto Completes 2026 Tour of Nevada Rural Counties
Las Vegas, Nev. – Last week, U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) toured Storey, Lyon, Churchill, Eureka, White Pine, and Lincoln Counties to discuss her work to support Nevada’s rural communities, promote tourism that benefits local economies, and help hardworking Nevadans across the state. This trip marks the completion of Cortez Masto’s annual tour of all 17 counties in Nevada.
“From fighting the administration’s food assistance cuts to investing in housing and economic development for our future, I will always fight for Nevada’s rural communities,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “I’m proud to serve as Senator for every Nevadan and work every single day to ensure our communities have a voice in Congress.”
Storey County

In Storey County, Senator Cortez Masto visited the Food Bank of Northern Nevada warehouse and food distribution at the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center to discuss the food bank’s operations, which provided Northern Nevadans across 13 counties with more than 20 million meals last year. They also shared the additional strain that Republicans’ cuts to food assistance have put on food banks and other organizations working to combat food insecurity.
Lyon County

The Senator met with county officials in Lyon County to discuss ballot delivery problems during the primary election and how the Senator can continue to push the U.S. Postal Service to ensure everyone’s mail ballot is processed in a safe and efficient manner.
Churchill County

Cortez Masto then visited Naval Air Station Fallon in Churchill County, where she met with Commander Haymon to discuss how she can support NAS Fallon’s mission, including by facilitating collaboration around the base expansion and modernization, helping them secure federal resources, and working to build housing across the region to support sailors and their families.
Eureka County

In Eureka County, Senator Cortez Masto hosted a listening session with Eureka community leaders. The Senator heard about the need for housing and for more resources for first responders. They also discussed efforts to secure grants for historic preservation, economic development, and tourism.
White Pine County

In White Pine County, the Senator joined Ely Mayor Nathan Robertson and White Pine Chamber CEO Shadrach Robertson for a tour of the downtown revitalization efforts. Senator Cortez Masto also met with CalTech researchers working on a next-generation radio telescope in White Pine County, leading the investment in the county as a future tech hub.

Later that day, the Senator attended the ribbon cutting for the restored Lehman Caves and the 40th Anniversary Celebration of Great Basin National Park. Cortez Masto emphasized her commitment to fighting for funding for the park and its staff, promoting tourism, and supporting local businesses.
Lincoln County

In Lincoln County, Senator Cortez Masto toured the Pioche Apartments, which opened earlier this year. The 32-apartment community provides affordable one- to two-bedroom apartment homes for families, seniors, and people with disabilities, and it received a $640,000 housing grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco, which Cortez Masto helped secure.
