The system is penalizing immigrants for trying to follow the law. We need to fix it.

I hear it all the time: "Why don't TPS holders just adjust their status?" The fact is, it isn't that simple for many TPS holders and other immigrants. The requirement that forces many immigrants to abandon their lives for a decade before coming back to the U.S. is just one of the many barriers that keep families in limbo. For many law-abiding immigrants who have lived and worked here for decades, there isn't even a "line" to get into. We can't keep kicking the can down the road on our broken system. I wrote the Fairness for Immigrant Families Act to finally start fixing it.
